3 days ago, I posted a news link announcing that President Obama has appointed the First Asian American Lesbian as a Federal Judge, Pamela Ki Mai Chen to a New York District court. For this blog, I decided to shed more light on this newly-appointed Judge.
Pamela Ki Mai Chen is a graduate of Georgetown Law and is a first generation American daughter of Chinese immigrants. Under her experience as a prosecutor, she has a background in Civil Rights and currently heads the Civil Rights Section of the Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of New York. During her service in the United States Attorney’s Office, she has held many supervisory positions, including Chief of the Civil Rights Section and Deputy Chief of the Public Integrity Section.
If approved by the senate, she would become the second Chinese-American woman to serve as a judge in U.S. history. She was originally recommended by Senator Chuck Schumer.
