While all the Olympic attention is focused on Jordan Wieber and Gabby Douglas, I am going to talk about Kyla Ross. Kyla was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. She has quite a multi-racial background. Her father is Black and Japanese and her mother is Filipino and Puerto Rican. She started gymnastics when she just three years old. She is the youngest of the Fab Five U.S Olympic Gymnastics team of age 15. But for a 15 year old, I am amazed at her calm composure, poise and well-rehearsed answers when speaking with reporters. What also fascinates me is definitely how she performed on the uneven bars with such ease as she swung from the low bar to the high bar and landed so effortlessly. Kyla clearly played an important role for Team USA winning Olympic gold with her special talent in that event. As an Asian American, I was also happy to see someone like Kyla Ross being a part of the Gymnastics 2012 team. I know we haven’t seen the last of Kyla and she has a long way to go and I’m not surprised if we do see her four years from now in Rio.
